2024 in Review
It’s December already and many of you probably wonder, where has this year gone? Well, we are wondering the same thing. It’s safe to say that 2024 has been a whirlwind of highs.
As the year draws to a close, let’s take a moment to reflect on the highlights and celebrate our standout moments of 2024.
New eLearning Courses
Pilot Career and Screening Standards eLearning course
With industry regulations continually changing, we launched a new Pilot Career and Screening Standards course to help pilots better understand the recruitment process and regulations, to increase their chances of securing employment.
This course assists pilots with the necessary interview preparation and helps maximise opportunities to achieve career goals efficiently. It provides insights into the recruitment and screening processes from an operator’s perspective, including CV and cover letter tips, and acts as a step-by-step guide to help secure a desired flying role.
Psychoactive Substances Management Programme (PSMP)
We launched the Psychoactive Substances Management Programme (PSMP) course in Spanish. This course is for safety-sensitive personnel who might endanger aviation safety if they perform their duties and functions inappropriately. This includes but is not limited to, flight crew members, ground crew, air traffic controllers and aircraft maintenance personnel.
Part 66 Self-Study – CAT A
Due to the success of our Part 66 Self-Study CAT B courses, we decided to expand our offering by launching a Part 66 Self-Study CAT A bundle as well. Our self-study courses make working towards a Part 66 licence more accessible.
When an individual is CAT A qualified, they can perform basic maintenance tasks and minor repairs on aircraft. They will be authorised to carry out routine inspections, simple repairs and replacements, often under the supervision of a higher-level licenced engineer (such as those with a CAT B licence).
RB211 Engine
British Airways generously provided us with an RB211 engine and other ancillary equipment which will enhance training. This wonderful addition is being used as a training aid for all apprentice cohorts to learn from going forward, especially for Module 15. This generous gift further consolidates our relationship with British Airways as an integral partner to our business in 2024 and beyond.
EASA Part-66 Regulation Change
The EASA Part-66 regulation changes (CIR 2023/989) which took effect from 12th June 2024, significantly affected the basic knowledge requirements an individual must demonstrate in passing EASA Part-66 approved examinations for their desired licence category.
As a result, UK CAA and EASA Part 147 training organisations can no longer dual certify, with the exception of Part 66 Modules 1 (Mathematics) and 17 (Propellers), as these modules are unaffected by the EASA regulation changes. Students are required to sit both EASA and UK CAA exams separately to receive both EASA and UK CAA certificates of recognition.
We therefore created and launched both UK CAA and EASA versions of our Part 66 Self-Study courseware to align with the requirements of each regulator.
Exam Centre Growth
2024 has seen a significant influx in the number of open examination sessions offered by Resource Group including new sites in London, Aberdeen, Manchester, Shannon and Amsterdam. This crucial requirement supports the growth of our Part-66 self-study product which continues to grow in popularity.
These newly established examination centres provide students with the opportunity to obtain both UK CAA and EASA certifications, enabling them to fulfil requirements for A1, A3, B1.1, B1.3, and B2 licences.
Record Number of Level 3 CAT A Apprentices Trained
Throughout 2024, we had 188 apprentices start their training, which is a significant uplift compared to 2023. It’s great to see that apprenticeships are becoming an increasingly popular route for ambitious individuals looking for a career in aviation.
The Success of Military Pathway Programmes
To support the demand for licenced engineers in the UK aviation industry, we developed the military pathway concept which provides the fastest route for Part 145 organisations to gain Part-66 CAT B licence holders. The uptake of this product in 2024 has been excellent, with clients such as British Airways, easyJet and Bombardier now on board.
Full Transition to HTML Examinations
The end of 2024 will signify the formal withdrawal of our Part-66 PDF examinations for CAT A and B licence categories. This transition period has been carefully managed across all departments as we successfully implement the full adoption of our digital HTML training materials throughout the business.
Aviation Industry Awards 2024
We had the pleasure of attending the Aviation Industry Awards 2024, for the first time. It was a fantastic evening filled with great networking opportunities and delicious food.
PR
We are thrilled to have been able to contribute to fantastic Aviation publications this year.
- The news of our Part 66 exam sites opening in Shannon and the Netherlands to address engineer shortages, was featured in Aviation Pros Halldale, Civil Aviation Training Magazine, ADS Advance, Aviation News, Aeromorning, UAA – University of Aviation Association newsletter, and Aviation Week.
- We secured an editorial opportunity with Aviation Business News on ‘Filling up the Aviation Maintenance Talent Pool’.
- We wrote an article about the compliance challenges that companies face when they are under pressure to hire and onboard workers quickly. This article was featured in September’s addition of Inside MRO magazine for Aviation Week.
New UKCAA to EASA Product
Last but not least, we have officially announced that in February 2025, we will launch a Part-66 UKCAA to EASA differences product for CAT B licences. This new product contains the differences required for an EASA licence and carries a much lower price tag than purchasing the full suite of EASA modules.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated team members, valued clients, and loyal customers for making these milestones possible. Your support and collaboration have been a massive part of our success and we look forward to reaching even greater heights together next year.
