Level 3 CAT A Aircraft Mechanic
Apprenticeships
Delivered over 27-months, the programme structure consists of:
- Phase One (first 9 months) – 65% practical (workshop, aircraft systems and engines) and 35% theory, ensuring apprentices gain the core skills required to confidently contribute to the aviation workforce.
- Phase Two (remaining 18 months) – Conducted within your organisation’s Part-145 environment, where apprentices are assessed on-site by our qualified in-house Apprentice Assessors.
Flexible Delivery Options:
- Theoretical and workshop elements of the programme can be delivered at your facility (subject to available facilities), with live aircraft systems and handling training taking place at our Cotswold Airport site.
- Alternatively, the full apprenticeship programme can be completed entirely at one of our dedicated training sites.
This approach ensures apprentices gain the skills, practical experience, and regulatory knowledge required to thrive in the UK aviation maintenance industry.
Phrase One Breakdown
Theory Training
The theoretical training stage is taught by our team of highly experienced Technical Instructors, covering the full UK CAA Part-66 Category A syllabus, from Module 1 (Mathematics) to Module 17 (Propellers).
The syllabus is delivered using our digital learning platform and integrated formative assessment tools.
Apprentices are taught and examined against all Part-66 core knowledge requirements.
This ensures they develop a strong technical foundation in aircraft maintenance theory, which is then consolidated as they progress into the practical training environment.

Workshop Practical Training
The Workshop Practical Delivery stage focuses on developing competent individuals who have been equipped with a high level of hand skills training.
During this 7-week phase, apprentices will plan and conduct a series of key aviation maintenance workshop tasks, including:
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Riveting
- Patch repairs
This phase is carefully planned to reflect the typical aviation maintenance tasks individuals will perform throughout their careers.
Aircraft Systems & Engines Practical Training
During the practical delivery stage, apprentices complete a 6-week live aircraft systems and handling programme at our Cotswolds Airport training facility. This hands-on phase allows apprentices to carry out industry-relevant tasks, including:
- Aircraft jacking
- Wheel and brake removal and replacement
- Component removal and installation
Programme Outcome
Graduates become UK CAA Part 66 Category A Aircraft Mechanics, ready to work in Part-145 approved maintenance organisations across the aviation industry.
